There’s a story of a lady who took her son to see Mahatma Gandhi…
Once on the schedule for the appointment, she and her son waited all day.
Finally, she and her son got to meet the man.
Her request was simple:
“Mr. Gandhi, Please tell my son to stop eating sweets,” she asked.
Gandhi paused and then said, “Please come back and see me in two weeks.”
“But Mr. Gandhi, we have waited all day and we’re here now.“
“I’m sorry but you must come back in two weeks,” he told her.
She left, repeated the process and waited again all day to meet the man.
Finally, she and her son were again face-to-face with Mr. Gandhi.
She reminded him of their previous visit, and asked him to tell her son to stop eating sweets.
“Yes ma’am I do remember… Son, stop eating sweets.”
“Mr. Gandhi why couldn’t you have told him that two weeks ago?”
“I couldn’t tell him to stop eating sweets two weeks ago because I hadn’t stopped eating sweets until now.”
The moral of this story? You must practice what you preach.
As I go about pitching you and everyone else in my CRM, the wonders of using our BizPlanBuilder business planning system, I’m also challenged by critical emergencies and other pressing projects I think will make more money.
Like you, I need all the help I can get. But, before I continue pitching you on using BizPlanBuilder, I wanted to reveal that I’m actually using it myself to do the exact same things I’m suggesting that you do.
And I’ve found that using my own product, (of course!) has made these tasks way more manageable.
“Planning is the one thing you can do,
that by doing it, everything else
becomes easier or unnecessary!”
Nevertheless, running a business myself, just like you are, I have day-to-day priorities that just seem to get in the way of developing my own business growth plan.
Then an odd thought crossed my mind…
I wondered if you’re in a similar situation and perhaps felt the same resistance to planning — you’ll get to it some day.
Here’s a breakthrough possibility…
Are you taking your own advice?
Are you using your own product?
Is it possible that the very reason(s) you are not using your own product or service, or taking your own advice could be the very reason you don’t have more customers or clients using your product or taking your advice?
What is your resistance? (Their resistance?)
The Gandhi story triggered this inquiry.
And compelled me past my own resistance.
Even compelled me to speculate on this insight.
Applied Wisdom Included…
For what it’s worth (FWIW), we often go way beyond just systems and templates to include mindful personal development discoveries and insights useful to conscious leaders driving our businesses.
If it applies, something to consider. If not, fugettabout it.
Anyway, like the cobbler whose kids have no shoes,
most of us are too busy selling to everyone else, yet…
As I’ve found (again)…
The payoff from planning is tremendous.
I originally created business planning software to make it easier and quicker.
And by using it again myself, I’m reminded that…
“It’s the one thing you can do, that by doing it,
everything else becomes easier or unnecessary!”
With all of the craziness going on in our world today, it’s critical to consider every aspect of our businesses and contemplate contingencies.
By collaborating with your team, your plan evolves into your new shared strategy, blueprint, roadmap, and/or playbook to go forward.
With everyone clear and motivated on their priorities, you can relax and maybe even enjoy yourself…
Eventually, it becomes the “brochure” that sells your business faster at a higher price.
And finally, it becomes your succession plan for your kids or buyer to continue what you started…
It’s the one thing you can do to make everything else easier or unnecessary.
